Continue to uphold highest standards of integrity – Police personnel advised

Accra, June 15, GNA – Commissioner of Police (COP) Mr Duuti Tuaruka, the Greater Accra Regional Police Commander, has advised Police personnel to continue to uphold the highest standards of integrity, professionalism and respect for human rights in the discharge of their duties.

He urged officers to remain guided by the core values of the Ghana Police Service and to wear the police uniform with dignity as expected of them by the nation.

COP Tuaruka gave the advice on Friday at the 2025 Greater Accra Regional Police Command West African Security Services Association (WASSA) celebration in Accra, held on the theme: “Honouring Commitment, Celebrating Excellence and Inspiring Tomorrow.”

The occasion was graced by Madam Linda Obenewaa Akweley Ocloo, Greater Accra Regional Minister and Mr Michael Kpakpo Allotey, the Accra Metropolitan Chief Executive.

It also brought together representatives of sister security agencies, including the Ghana National Fire Service and the Ghana Air Force Base, among other distinguished guests.

COP Tuaruka described the occasion as a well-deserved opportunity for officers to pause and reflect on the demanding nature of their work.

WASSA serves as a platform for personnel to socialise, strengthen bonds and celebrate their achievements.

“The past year has been very highly demanding. For us, personnel across the Greater Accra Region, from our routine community policing to power management, to specialised interventions against crime, and also engaging in saving lives from disaster incidents that we have recorded within Greater Accra quite recently,” he said.

The successes chalked by the Command during the period were a testament to the discipline, teamwork and commitment exhibited by officers across units, districts and divisions, he said.

The adoption of modern policing practices, enhanced inter-agency collaboration and proactive measures against criminal syndicates had contributed significantly to reducing various security threats within the capital.

“Our successes this year are all testament to the discipline and teamwork that we have exhibited as officers and personnel within our units, districts and divisions,” he stated.

COP Tuaruka, however, cautioned against complacency, describing security as dynamic, particularly in a fast-growing metropolis such as Accra.

He said maintaining peace and security remained a shared responsibility requiring the cooperation of all stakeholders.

The Regional Commander expressed appreciation to traditional authorities, community leaders, development partners and law-abiding residents of the region for their continued support.

He assured personnel that their welfare remained a priority for the Command, adding that efforts were being made, in collaboration with the Government, to improve access to logistics, equipment and support systems needed for effective service delivery.

“As a service, we remain committed to building upon this public trust by ensuring that our doors remain open to all the community members we serve,” he said.

Superintendent Juliana Obeng, Head of Public Affairs, Greater Accra Regional Police Command, said the gathering was not only to celebrate the end of another policing year but also to recognise the dedication, sacrifice and professionalism of officers and staff who had served the region diligently.

“Policing is a demanding profession that often requires all of us to put duty before personal comfort,” she said.

“This year’s WASSA therefore provides us with the opportunity to relax, interact, strengthen our minds and appreciate one another’s contributions to the success of our sacrifice and service.”

Superintendent Obeng urged officers to reflect on their achievements, learn from their challenges and renew their commitment to serving the nation with integrity, courage and excellence.

The event was being held in June 2026 instead of the traditional end-of-year period due to series of engagements, thereby causing delays in organising the celebration.

She said the Regional Command had initially planned to organise the event in May but had to postpone it to observe the ban on noise-making.

The Command later had to reschedule the event again following the funeral arrangements for the late Inspector-General of Police, Mr Paul Tawiah Quaye.

She noted that although WASSA celebrations had been held across various police formations nationwide, including the National Headquarters, the Greater Accra Regional Command’s celebration was specifically organised for personnel serving within the regional headquarters.

Looking ahead, Superintendent Obeng said the Command remained focused on strengthening professionalism and enhancing safety within the region during the remaining months of the year and commended officers and personnel within the region for their dedication and sacrifice.
