Tema, June 02, GNA — Some consumers and business operators in Tema have expressed concern over what they described as deteriorating mobile network quality, citing frequent dropped calls, slow internet speeds and disruptions to digital transactions.
They say the challenges are affecting communication, business operations and access to online services, with many calling for urgent intervention by stakeholders in the telecommunications sector.
Madam Bernice Ofori, a businesswoman, told the Ghana News Agency (GNA) that unreliable network connectivity had become a major challenge for businesses that depend on digital platforms to serve customers and process transactions.
She said frequent call drops, poor internet service, and concerns about data usage were affecting productivity and increasing operational difficulties for many entrepreneurs.
Mr Benson Mawusi, an Information Technology specialist, noted that poor internet speeds and weak signal reception were impacting the quality of digital services and slowing down work processes.
According to him, reliable telecommunications infrastructure is essential for the growth of Ghana’s digital economy and the productivity of businesses and institutions.
He urged the Ministry of Communications, Digital Technology and Innovations and service providers to take steps to improve service quality.
Mr Agyeman Owusu, a mobile money operator, said unstable network services often disrupted mobile money transactions, causing delays and inconveniencing both vendors and customers.
He added that network interruptions affected daily business activities and sometimes resulted in loss of potential income.
Mr Rockson Oko, a resident of Tema, said many consumers now maintain multiple SIM cards from different network operators to improve their chances of staying connected.
He observed that while the practice provided alternatives during service interruptions, it also increased communication costs for consumers.
The residents called on telecommunications operators to improve network reliability and service quality to support businesses and enhance customer satisfaction.
