Chokosi/Anufo community honours seven industrious members

Kumasi June 24, GNA – The Chokosi/Anufo community in the Ashanti Region has honoured seven of its industrious members at its Diaspora Awards ceremony in Kumasi. 

The Chokosi/Anufo are a distinctive Akan-speaking people, predominantly based in the north-eastern part of Ghana, with the community largely concentrated in and around the Chereponi District. 

The awards ceremony, held at the Prempeh Assembly Hall in Kumasi, marked the second edition of the Diaspora Awards, organised by Anor Events Crew.  

The event seeks to celebrate excellence, ingenuity, and meaningful contributions that propel the development of their communities.  

It also serves as a platform to recognise the awardees’ notable efforts in peacebuilding and the strengthening of unity within the Chokosi/Anufo community. 

The awardees include Alhaji Bashiru Amidu (Outstanding Personality in Education), Sir Umar Faruq Alhassan (Outstanding Personality in Community Service and Philanthropy), and Mr. Kpafini Mohammad Yakubu (Outstanding Personality in Wood Works). 

Others were Mr. Mohammed Sharif (Outstanding Personality in Business), Mr. Tahiru Morasu (Outstanding Personality in Anufo History Preservation), Mr. Jadam Yaw Boakye (Outstanding Media Personality), and Mr. Adams Kwaku Ofori (for Community Development). 

Speaking at the event, Mr. Jamil Adam Kofi, the Executive Director of Anor Events Crew, stated that the seven recipients were selected through a stringent process conducted by experts.  

He explained that the selection was guided by merit alone, anchored on dedication, authenticity, and sustained contributions to community advancement. 

Mr. Adam Kofi also disclosed that, about five thousand participants from diverse Chokosi/Anufo communities across Ghana graced the occasion. 

In a speech, Mr. Adams Kwaku Ofori, a philanthropist and businessman and the sponsor of the event, noted that, the awards were a testament to countless hours of labour, sacrifice and an unwavering commitment to excellence by and for the people of Anufo.  

He added that the Chokosi/Anufo community was crafting a roadmap of success to ensure others were inspired to follow a similar path. 

The programme featured captivating traditional musical performances by leading Anufo artists. 

The event was sponsored by Strong Adam Ventures, with support from the Ashanti Regional Chokosi/Anufo Chief Palace.
