Accra, June 13, GNA- The Attorney General has raised legal objection to the withdrawal of service by Mr Andy Appiah Kubi, counsel for Bernard Antwi Boasiako, popularly known as Chairman Wontumi.
In a notice of preliminary legal objection to a motion on notice for leave to withdraw legal service, Dr Justice Srem-Sai, the deputy Attorney General, indicated that his objection was based on grounds of “jurisdiction, capacity and Standi.”
The preliminary objection, filed by Dr Srem-Sai, was dated June 12, 2026.
It comes after Mr Appiah-Kubi filed a notice to withdraw his legal service, raising concerns about how proceedings were conducted by the court.
Meanwhile the High Court, presided over by Justice Audrey Kocuvie-Tay, has fixed July 3, 2026, to deliver judgement in the Samreboi Illegal Mining case in which Boasiako and two are standing trial.
Mr Appiah-Kubi and the prosecution are expected to file their written addresses, if any, before the court hands down its judgement.
Boasiako, a businessman and Ashanti Regional Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), is saddled with three different cases before three different courts.
The Samreboi illegal mining case is one of the three cases.
The Samreboi case boarded on the deed of assignment allegedly handed over to some accused persons now turned prosecution witnesses to engage in illegal mining in the Samreboi Forest Reserve.
Boasiako and his firm Akonta Mining Company Limited have denied the offences.
His accomplice, Kwame Antwi, is on the run.
The motion for Mr Appiah-Kubi ‘s withdrawal of service is expected to be moved at the High Court on Monday, June 15.
