Accra, June 06, GNA – The Association of China-Ghana Mining LBG is partnering the University of Mines and Technology (UMaT), Tarkwa, for multidisciplinary industrial training.

The collaboration also aims to ensure the promotion of scholarship towards the training and human resource development of both parties.

A Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was, therefore, signed by the Association of China-Ghana Mining LBG (ACGM) and UMaT at the weekend, in Accra, establishing formal links to further promote Sino-Ghanaian relations in the extractive sector.

The move forms part of efforts to enhance development through knowledge sharing and technology transfer, while bridging the academia-industry gap.

Designed to be in force for an initial period of four years, the pact spells out the vision to undertake joint collaborative research for the mutual benefits of both parties.

It serves as a broad framework of collaboration in the designing of short courses and practical training programmes for the staff of ACGM to upgrade the manpower requirements vis-à-vis its mining business.

Dr Jamel Seidu, Head of the Geological and Environmental Engineering Department, UMaT, in an interview with the Ghana News Agency (GNA) on the sidelines of the signing ceremony, affirmed the University’s commitment to implementing the terms of agreement.

He said, per the terms of agreement, the University would assist in identifying and recommending students for internship with the ACGM.

Additionally, it would also assist in identifying and recommending students for scholarship with the Association.

Dr Seidu lauded the ACGM for agreeing to avail its facilities to UMaT students and graduate trainees/interns for training based on requirements as prescribed by the miners.

The Association brings together leading Chinese mining enterprises operating in Ghana, including Cardinal Namdini Mining Ltd (a subsidiary of Shandong Gold Group), and Golden Star (Wassa) Ltd (a subsidiary of Chifeng Gold Group).

On the sidelines of the programme, the Association convened a stakeholders’ meeting that presented various mining firms with the platform to demonstrate their development programmes.

In attendance was Mr Vincent Sun, the Vice President of Cardinal Namdini Mining Ltd.
