Volta Triathlon Association hosts cycling competition to boost local talent

Kedzi-Vodza (V/R), May 2, GNA-The Volta Regional chapter of the Ghana Triathlon Federation has organised a competitive cycling competition at Kedzi-Vodza, in the Keta Municipality to nurture, unearth and boost new talent for the sports.

The event, which was spearheaded by Oly Sports Consult, have brought together athletes who displayed the spirit of endurance, dedication and skill along the scenic Kedzi-Vodza coastline.

Mr Felix Apedo, the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the Oly Sports Consult in an interview with the Ghana News Agency, stated that a total of 20 participants, comprising of seven runners and seven cyclist, with six PWDs have demonstrated their physical prowess throughout the competition which showcased the growing interest in triathlon disciplines in the region.

“The competition is notably inclusive, with persons with disabilities (PWDs) actively participated in the event which underscored our commitment to promoting sports for all,” he said.

He said that after a rigorous contest, Mr Moses Tettey, emerged as the overall winner, while Madam Enyonam Medzesiwo and Sylvanus Zigli secured the second and third positions, respectively in the PWDs categories.

Mr Apedo stated that as a gesture of appreciation for the dedication exhibited by the athletes, the association has awarded a certificate and cash prize to all participants for taking part in the competition to motivate and support their continued involvement in the sports.

Mr Apedo, who is also the Executive Member of the Ghana National Triathlon Association, has expressed satisfaction with the high level of competition and congratulated the athletes for their endurance and commitment.

“Let me emphasis that the primary motive behind this initiative is to refine existing skills and develop talent in the sport in the region to ensure a sustainable future for triathlon in the region.”

Mr Apedo used the opportunity and appealed to benevolent organisations, philanthropists, individuals and the government to focus their attention on such sporting events to foster talent development in the area.

Meanwhile, Mr Moses Tettey, and other participating athletes, who spoke to the GNA extended their heartfelt gratitude to the organisers for hosting a successful and well-coordinated event that showcased the athletic abilities.

They urged the sports ministry to adopt and support the athletes in the sports to foster more development and reshape the talent of the youths in the municipality and the region at large for the best.
