Ho (V/R), May 11, GNA – The newly constituted Volta Regional Football Association (VRFA) Beach Soccer Committee has held its maiden meeting and adopted a strategic short-term development plan.

It aimed at promoting beach soccer and positioning it as a catalyst for eco-tourism and sports tourism along the coastal belt of the Volta Region.

The virtual meeting, held over the weekend, brought together all seven members of the committee to deliberate on strategies for the growth and expansion of beach soccer within the region.

Mr Dzidodo Ruben Adjahoe, the Chairman of the Committee, in his opening remarks, congratulated members on their appointment and urged them to justify the confidence reposed in them through dedication and collective effort.

He charged members to work together to transform beach soccer into a major sporting discipline capable of creating opportunities for the youth and boosting tourism activities along the Southern Volta coast.

Mr Adjahoe acknowledged the current challenges facing beach soccer in the region but expressed optimism that the newly constituted committee, which he described as more representative and relatable, would make significant contributions toward the development of the sport.

He said the composition of the committee reflected a blend of experience and commitment needed to reposition beach soccer within the regional sports landscape.

The committee, after deliberations, unanimously adopted a strategic short-term development plan to guide beach soccer activities through to the end of the year.

As part of the adopted strategy, the committee resolved to engage the Volta Regional Coordinating Council (VRCC) and Municipal and District Chief Executives (MDCEs) on the development and promotion of beach soccer across the region.

The committee has also planned to organise stakeholder engagements within coastal communities involving traditional authorities, religious leaders, political actors, Assembly Members, opinion leaders, team owners and the youth.

Other key priorities include preparations toward the organisation of the Volta Beach Soccer League, the introduction of beach soccer in schools and the regularisation of beach soccer competitions within the region.

The committee further resolved to expand the sport across the Southern Volta coastline, particularly within the Ketu South and Anloga areas where beach soccer activities have shown growing interest among the youth.

Members of the committee made various contributions during the meeting and pledged their commitment to supporting the progressive development of beach soccer in the region.

The committee members who participated in the meeting included Mr Daniel Kovor, Mr Ivan Akrobotu, Mr Charles Epiphany Ativor, Mr Gabriel Dzikunu, Mr Mawuli Edward Agbetefe and Mr Innocent Kumensah.
