Accra, May 1, GNA – The Teachers and Educational Workers’ Union (TEWU) has urged the Government to implement the agreed-upon provisions of the various Conditions of Service for its members to promote industrial harmony.
The leadership of TEWU has successfully concluded the Conditions of Service for some of its major constituents: the Ghana Education Service, the Ghana Museums and Monuments Board, the Ghana Library Authority, and the public and technical universities.
This was after a long delay that characterised the negotiations before they were finally concluded in the last quarter of 2025 and the first quarter of 2026.
A statement issued on Friday by King James Azortibah, the General Secretary of the Union, to mark this year’s May Day, said the union had not relented in its resolve to make sacrifices to sustain the country’s socio-economic development.
“As workers, we have taken the challenge to ensure that our service delivery in our schools, offices, and other productive spheres of national endeavours reflects a country on a purposeful progressive development path,” it said.
The statement said any attempt to frustrate the union members in the implementation of the Conditions of Service would not be taken lightly.
“It is our expectation that our duty bearers will guard against actions that undermine the dignity of Ghanaian workers,” it said.
“Our forebears in the movement gave their all towards a dignified working environment. The least we can do is to uphold this legacy to the memory of their sacrifices.”
The statement stressed on the sacrifices made by Ghanaian workers for the country’s progress, urging duty bearers to create the enabling environment and providing the resources for optimal output.
“We, therefore, on this 2026 May Day, call on our social partners to live up to expectations so that, together we continue to move our dear country to the economic and social development height, we all desire,” it added.
