Accra, May 17, GNA – The Accra Circuit Court One has granted a two-million Ghana cedis bail with three sureties each to a soldier and five security operatives over alleged assault on a Chinese national.

The Court ordered that all the sureties for the accused persons should be justified by their places of abode.

One of the sureties for each accused person should be justified with a landed property within the jurisdiction of the court and should not be less than the bail sum.

The court further ordered the accused persons to report to the investigator every Wednesday and Friday.

They are also to deposit their passports with the Court Registry and are not to travel outside the court’s jurisdiction.

Lance Corporal Benjamin Agyekum, the soldier, together with Mahama Iddrisu Dauda Seidu, Isaac Ofori, Adom Bills, Hayford Boafo, and Ato McHenry, all security operatives, denied conspiring to form an illegal group to assault the victim.

They are to reappear before the Court on June 5, 2026.

The accused persons also denied conspiring to assault Ma Kaixiang and denied being members of an organised criminal group.

Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Issah Achiburi earlier told the court that the complainants were police personnel from the Accra Central Regional Police Command.

He said Lance Corporal Agyekum, 32, was a serving military officer with the 5th Infantry Battalion at Burma Camp, Accra.

Seidu, 48, Ofori, 35, Bills, 32, Boafo, 47, and McHenry, 48, are all self-acclaimed security operatives from the National Security Secretariat.

ASP Achiburi said on May 6, 2026, at about 1200 hours at Mankrong in the Central Region, the complainants received a distress call from an unknown caller.

The caller alleged that the accused persons, dressed in military and immigration uniforms and onboard a Toyota Land Cruiser with registration number GW 8887-V, had invaded SI Jun Toiletries Manufacturing Company at Akwakwa near Mankrong Nkwanta.

The prosecution said the accused persons handcuffed workers and subjected them to severe beatings.

The complainants proceeded to the scene, rescued the victims and arrested the accused persons, the Court heard.

ASP Achiburi said investigations revealed that the accused persons admitted storming the premises of the company, which was owned by a Chinese national, and claimed they were members of a National Security Monitoring and Evaluation Team.

However, they failed to produce any form of identification to support the claim.

Investigations are ongoing, police said.
