Chirano (WN/R), May 3, GNA – Okogyeman Kwaku Gyamprah III, Paramount Chief of the Sefwi Chirano Traditional Area, has pledged to institute a scholarship scheme to support best-performing indigenous candidates in the ongoing West Africa Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE).
The scheme is expected to motivate students in the Bibiani-Anhwiaso-Bekwai Municipality, particularly those within the Chirano Traditional Area, to improve their academic performance.
Okogyeman Kwaku Gyamprah III, who also serves as Vice President of the Western North Regional House of Chiefs, said the initiative would help ease the financial burden on parents who were unable to support their children to pursue tertiary education.
In a statement, the Paramount Chief said the intervention would target brilliant but needy indigenous students from the area who gained admission into tertiary institutions.
He said the scholarship scheme was aimed at promoting equitable access to quality education within the traditional area.
The Chief urged students to take their studies seriously in order to qualify for the scholarship, stressing that hard work and discipline remained key ingredients for academic success.
Okogyeman Kwaku Gyamprah III indicated that the scheme would cover tuition fees, learning materials and other essential costs to improve the lives of beneficiaries.
He further explained that similar support would be extended to empower young people undergoing apprenticeship training in areas such as carpentry, plumbing, hairdressing, dressmaking and tailoring, to equip them with employable skills.
The Paramount Chief expressed optimism that the intervention would help bridge educational and skills gaps while nurturing the next generation of leaders and professionals from the Chirano Traditional Area.
