Professor Amin Alhassan commissions four-unit residential facility for GBC staff in Tamale

Tamale, May 26, GNA – Professor Amin Alhassan, Director-General, Ghana Broadcasting Corporation (GBC) has commissioned a four-unit residential accommodation facility for staff of Radio Savannah in Tamale to improve their welfare and enhance working conditions.

The facility, commissioned during a short ceremony on Tuesday, is expected to provide accommodation for key staff of Radio Savannah, GBC’s Northern Regional branch, especially personnel, whose duties required early morning and late-night presence at the station.

Professor Alhassan, speaking during the event, said the project reflected GBC’s commitment to providing infrastructure to support staff and improve operational efficiency.

He described the commissioning as a significant milestone for the corporation, and an indication of the importance attached to staff welfare.

He said the residential units were developed through a land swap agreement between GBC and a developer and had now become part of the corporation’s housing stock.

He said, “It has always been the wish and desire of the board and management to continue providing facilities that will make conditions of work for our staff easier.”

Prof Alhassan explained that availability of staff accommodation remained crucial particularly when personnel were transferred from Accra and other regions to Tamale, adding that accommodation challenges often affected staff deployment.

He said prior to the completion of the facility, even the Northern Regional Director had been residing in rented accommodation, which was not ideal.

He indicated that the new accommodation would provide housing for the Northern Regional Director and some members of the technical team, especially those required to be at the station during odd hours.

He added that the location of the facility close to the Radio Savannah office would enable staff to respond promptly to operational demands and improve productivity.

Prof Alhassan hinted that GBC still had additional land within the area and could undertake more housing projects in future when resources became available.

He reaffirmed the commitment of the board and management to improving staff welfare across the corporation.

Alhaji Iddrisu Salifu, Northern Regional Director of GBC Radio Savannah, commended management of the cooperation for the initiative and pledged to ensure that the facility was used for its intended purpose.

He described the project as timely and said it would contribute significantly to improving the welfare and efficiency of staff at the station.
