Police Inspector remanded over alleged robbery of MoMo vendor

Kumasi, May 12, GNA – A serving police officer has been remanded into police custody by the Atasemanso Circuit Court over his alleged involvement in a robbery attack targeting a mobile money vendor. 

The suspect, Inspector Bright Appiah Dankwah, who was stationed at the Asuoyeboah Police Station, has also been interdicted by the Ashanti Regional Police Command pending investigations into the case. 

According to a police statement signed by Deputy Superintendent of Police Godwin Ahianyo, Head of the Public Affairs Unit of the Ashanti Regional Police Command, the officer was arrested by the Regional Anti-Robbery Unit following what police described as intelligence-led operations. 

A search conducted at the suspect’s residences reportedly uncovered a Bruni Model 92 gas pistol, ammunition, and an amount of GHS 9,835.00 suspected to be linked to the alleged robbery operation. 

The incident has sparked public concern, particularly among mobile money vendors who continue to face increasing attacks from armed robbers across the country.  

The statement said on May 11, 2026, Inspector Dankwah was arraigned before the Atasemanso Circuit Court and remanded into police custody.  

He is expected to reappear before the court on May 29, 2026.
