Nations FC chase FA Cup redemption after disappointing premier league campaign

Accra, May 29, GNA-History will be on the line at the University of Ghana Stadium on Sunday, May 31, as first-time finalists Nations FC storm into battle against Dreams FC in a fiery FA Cup final showdown.

For Dr. Kwame Kyei’s Nations FC, relegation may have crushed their league dream, but the Royals are now just days away from turning heartbreak into historic FA Cup glory, a twist that could transform a troubled season into their greatest ever triumph.

Their journey to the final had been nothing short of electric, beginning with a hard-fought win over Ebony FC before stunning AshantiGold SC in a statement victory.

From grit to glory, Nations FC had bulldozed expectations, their run defined by resilience, shocks, and fearless football that had forged them into true cup warriors with a point to prove.

The relegated side kept their fairytale run alive with authority and nerve, first edging Premier League side Swedru All Blacks 2-1, before surviving a nail-biting penalty shootout against Berekum Chelsea in the quarter-finals.

They then stamped their authority in the semi-finals, dismantling Aduana FC in Swedru to seal a place in the final.

Solid at the back and ruthless when it matters, Nations FC have scored eight goals and conceded just two throughout the competition, emerging as one of the tournament’s toughest teams to break down.

Frimpong Manso, head coach of Nations FC, would be under intense pressure to deliver a positive result on Sunday, with his position still hanging in the balance ahead of a tough encounter.

The experienced tactician had come under heavy criticism from supporters in recent weeks, making the clash a defining moment in his bid to steady both results and confidence around the team.

The gaffer guided the side through a turbulent season, finishing 16th on the Premier League table with 44 points from 34 games, a campaign of struggle, survival, and hard lessons that now sets the stage for a much-needed cup redemption.

But standing in his way would be a Dreams FC side hungry to reclaim the crown they lifted in the 2022/23 season.

The former champions are back in the final for the second time and arrive with experience, confidence and momentum firmly on their side.

With pride, continental qualification and FA Cup glory all on the line, the stage is perfectly set for a blockbuster showdown in Accra.

For Nations FC, it is a shot at history but for Dreams FC, it is a chance to reclaim glory.
