Accra, May 5, GNA – Medical services have resumed at the Korle-Bu Teaching Hospital following the suspension of a one-day industrial action by doctors.
The Korle-Bu Doctors Association (KODA) withdrew services on Monday, leading to the closure of the Out-Patient Department (OPD), in protest over an operational and policy dispute relating to access to laboratory space and the definition of professional roles within the hospital’s central laboratory.
The disagreement relates to long-standing issues between medical doctors trained in laboratory medicine and laboratory scientists over authority, allocation of workspace, and leadership of laboratory units.
Madam Rosemong Mensah, a caregiver, said: “My dad cannot afford to miss his appointment tomorrow,” she said.
Mrs Ruweida Boampong, a pregnant woman, said she had visited the hospital on Monday to begin referral procedures ahead of her expected delivery this week but was turned away due to the absence of doctors.
She said she would continue with her care following the resumption of services.
A Ghana News Agency visit to the Surgical Department and Maternity OPDs on Tuesday morning showed doctors attending to patients in consulting rooms.
Services have since returned to normal at the facility.
