Zukpire, (UW/R), May 29, GNA – Over a hundred children at the Zukpire and Faalu communities in the Lawra Municipality can now heave a sigh of relief following the commissioning of a newly constructed kindergarten (KG) block at Zukpire.
The intervention by Mr Bede Ziedeng, Member of Parliament (MP) for Lawra Constituency, at a cost of GH¢219,885.00 from the MP’s share of the Ghana Education Trust Fund (GETFund), would help improve access to early childhood education in the area.
It was necessitated by the challenges children in the two communities faced in accessing pre-primary education, as they had to trek several kilometres daily to either Kalsegre or Pavuu to attend school.
The situation denied some children access to early childhood education because they could not endure the long-distance walk at such tender ages and had to wait until they were older before beginning formal education.
Speaking at the commissioning at Zupkire, Mr Ziedeng said the project formed part of his broader vision to strengthen education infrastructure and ensure equitable access to quality education across the constituency.
“It is about investing in the future of our children, strengthening the foundation of education and reaffirming our collective commitment to the development of every community within the Lawra Constituency,” he stated.
Mr Ziedeng noted that education remained one of the powerful tools for transforming societies and uplifting communities from poverty and deprivation.
He, therefore, stressed that every child deserved access to a safe, conducive and dignified learning environment regardless of social background or geographical location.
The MP reiterated his commitment to improving educational infrastructure in the constituency and indicated that another KG block project would soon commence at Tampie in the municipality.
He explained that his interventions in the education sector were in line with President John Dramani Mahama’s vision to expand and strengthen educational development at the grassroots level.
Madam Cecilia Soyelleh Nuratu, the Lawra Municipal Chief Executive (MCE), described the project as a symbol of hope and progress for the people of Zukpire and surrounding communities.
She said early childhood education formed the foundation of a child’s academic journey, but that the lack of conducive infrastructure had long hindered effective teaching and learning in some communities within the municipality.
Naa Baaboornubor Zaataanomo Tang III, the Chief of Zukpire, expressed gratitude to the MP for intervention, which marked a turning point in education in the community.
He, however, appealed to parents to ensure their children attended school regularly now that access to early childhood education had been brought closer to the community.
Mr Francis Cudjoe, the Lawra Municipal Director of Education, said fully qualified licensed teachers had been assigned to the school, and assured efforts to ensure proper maintenance of the facility.
Meanwhile, Mr Pelletege Langteng Frederick, the Assembly Member for the Kalsegra Electoral Area, appealed for the construction of a lower primary school block at Zukpire to further alleviate the children’s plight in accessing education at tender ages.
