Kpodzivi Assembly Member issues seven-day ultimatum to cattle owners

Kpodzivi (V/R), May 2, GNA – Mr Kennedy Biedo, Assembly Member for the Kpodzivi Electoral Area in the Akatsi South Municipality, has issued a seven-day ultimatum to two individuals to remove all cattle under their care from Kpodzivi lands.

The directive, addressed to Mr Zikpitor David Honu and Mr Obey Honu, follows what the Assembly Member described as unauthorised grazing activities on community lands.

According to Mr Biedo, the action was taken on the instructions of Torgbi Horsu III, the Dufia of Kpodzivi, and in consultation with opinion leaders and residents of the area.

He said the cattle, reportedly brought into the area without the consent of traditional authorities, had been grazing extensively on farmlands, destroying crops and livelihoods of farmers in Kpodzivi and nearby communities.

Mr Biedo noted that the situation reflects a growing concern in many parts of Ghana, where cattle grazing has increasingly led to the destruction of farms, tension between herdsmen and residents and threat to food security.

He said such disturbances had, in some cases, resulted in conflicts and insecurity within affected communities, making it imperative for local authorities and stakeholders to act decisively.

Mr Biedo indicated that the continued presence of the animals in Kpodzivi had heightened anxiety among residents, prompting the issuance of the ultimatum to avert further damage and possible escalation of tensions.

He warned that failure by the cattle owners to comply within the stipulated period would be at their own risk.

The Assembly Member appealed for cooperation from the affected individuals to ensure peaceful coexistence and protection of farmlands in the area.
