Accra, May 15, GNA – Ghana’s Black Starlets let a two-goal advantage slip to draw 2-2 with Algeria in their opening Group D match at the TotalEnergies CAF U-17 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) in Morocco.

Ghana made a fast start, taking the lead two minutes after kickoff through Yao Gavi, who reacted quickest in the box to give his side an early advantage.

Eight minutes later, Eric Adu Gyamfi doubled the lead with a long-range effort from about 40 yards, putting Ghana firmly in control of the match.

The Black Starlets continued to create chances and could have extended their lead before halftime, but poor finishing kept Algeria in contention despite Ghana’s dominance in the first half.

Algeria improved after the break, returning with greater intensity and pressing forward.

The North Africans scored twice before the 70th minute to level the match against a Ghana side that struggled to maintain its early momentum.

Algeria had a chance to complete the comeback after being awarded a penalty, but the effort was missed.

The draw leaves South Africa top of Group D following their win over Senegal in the other group match.

Ghana would face Senegal in their next group fixture on May 17 as they seek to boost their chances of progressing to the next round of the competition.
