Former Assembly man declares intention to contest for NDC vice chairmanship position in Lambussie

Lambussie (U/W), May 11, GNA – Mr An-ichie Lateef Banuosing, a Circuit Supervisor of the Ghana Education Service (GES) in the Lambussie District, has declared his intention to contest the Vice Chairmanship position of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) in the upcoming constituency executive elections in Lambussie.

Mr Banuosing, a former Assemblyman for the Suke Electoral Area and Co-opted Executive of the NDC, who also served as Polling Station Secretary for Chum Electoral Area, said he was contesting for the position following several cracks within the party after the 2024 general elections.

Speaking to the Ghana News Agency in Lambussie, Mr Banuosing said his decision was driven by the need to reorganise the party, strengthen grassroots structures, mobilise resources, and work closely with the constituency executives to ensure effective branch executive elections ahead of the 2028 polls.

“Reorganising branches now will lay the foundation for early voter engagement, continuous membership drives and effective issue-based campaigning,” he said.

Mr Banuosing noted that strong branches would serve as the first line of defence against misinformation and provide the primary point of contact for new voters.

He said he had been a member of the NDC since 1996 and had contributed to the party’s victories in both presidential and parliamentary elections in the constituency.

He explained that cracks within the party following the 2024 general elections had motivated him to contest to help unite factions and reposition the party for progress.

“Fresh and credible elections for good candidates will restore legitimacy, give me the mandate, and I will create an environment where executives can work together as a team rather than as factions,” he stated.

He said, “I am experienced and committed candidate that can work for growth, unity and build the confidence of the party members back in track in the constituency and at the grassroots despite the cracks”.

Mr Banuosing stated that his goal was to work closely with the party to boost the NDC’s electoral fortunes in the Lambussie Constituency and bring back unity to achieve victory for the party, particularly in 2028 elections.

He said his priority would be to institute a structured welfare scheme for branch-level executives to motivate and retain loyal members. He also pledged to lobby for employment opportunities for party members to sustain the proposed fund.

He emphasised that his vision was to reposition the party through strategic initiatives aimed at strengthening internal structures, promoting unity, and expanding its electoral base.

Mr Banuosing stressed that the branch formed the base of the party yet there was no welfare scheme for branch executives to motivate branch-level members to remain loyal to the party at all times.

“The party only goes to them when it needs them. It is my hope that, if given the nod, I will mobilise resources and lobby for support for branch executives,” he said.

He further pledged to develop strategic plans to make the party more attractive in Lambussie, increase voter support, and work to retain the constituency’s parliamentary seat in 2028.

He expressed confidence that his leadership would foster unity, discipline and renewed hope within the party.

Mr Banuosing appealed to delegates and party members to support his intention, reaffirming his commitment to dedicated service and the advancement of the NDC in the constituency.

The NDC has announced a roadmap for its 2026 reorganisation and internal elections to strengthen the party from the grassroots.

The process, mandated by the party’s constitution, seeks to renew mandates at the branch, constituency, regional and national levels, deepen internal democracy, consolidate unity, and position the NDC for future governance.
