Ho (V/R), May 30, GNA – The EP College of Education, Amedzofe, (AMECO) has officially launched its 80th anniversary celebration under the theme: “80 Years of Excellence in Teacher Education: Reflecting on Our Legacy and Shaping the Future.”
The event held in Ho on Friday brought together government officials, alumni, traditional leaders, clergy, students and stakeholders in the education sector to celebrate the institution’s contributions to teacher education and national development.
Mr Prosper Francis Dusey, Ho West District Chief Executive, representing the Volta Regional Minister as Guest of Honour, commended the college for eight decades of commitment to discipline, academic excellence, moral training and quality teacher education in Ghana.
He said the college had produced thousands of dedicated teachers who had served across the country, particularly in rural and underserved communities, helping to nurture and transform lives through education.
Mr Dusey noted that no nation could progress beyond the quality of its human resource, stressing that teachers remained the foundation upon which every profession was built
He called on stakeholders, government, the church, alumni and development partners to support the college to meet the demands of modern teacher education driven by technology and innovation.
The DCE praised the Evangelical Presbyterian Church, Ghana, for its immense contribution to education and moral development in the country over the years.
Dr Dickson Tsey, Principal of the College, said the anniversary celebration was not only a commemorative event but also a reflection on the institution’s history, sacrifices, resilience and transformation over the years.
He stated that the college had contributed significantly to the development of education in Ghana through the training of competent professional teachers serving diligently across the country and beyond.
Dr Tsey revealed that historical investigations conducted by stakeholders indicated that the institution was more than 80 years old, adding that efforts were underway to properly document the true historical account of the college for future generations.
He said the college had witnessed remarkable transformation in recent years, particularly in infrastructure development through prudent management of its internally generated funds.
According to him, the college had completed a six-unit two-bedroom staff accommodation facility, constructed a new administration block and built a new female hall of residence to address accommodation challenges.
Dr Tsey further disclosed that the college had also benefited from a GETFund emergency project involving the construction of a lecture hall complex.
In the area of academics, he said the college continued to record impressive results, revealing that it achieved 27 first-class honours during its last graduation ceremony compared to 11 in the previous year.
He added that the college recently emerged first among five colleges during the Edufest Festival organised at Akatsi College of Education.
The Principal said staff development had also improved significantly, with the institution currently having six PhD holders while several others were pursuing higher academic qualifications.
As part of the anniversary celebrations, Dr Tsey announced two major legacy projects, namely the establishment of an Endowment Fund and a sustainable water supply system for the college.
He assured stakeholders that all funds raised towards the projects would be used solely for their intended purposes.
A 24-member Central Planning Committee has been inaugurated to oversee preparations for the anniversary celebration scheduled for October this year.
Mr Worlase Kpeli, Member of Parliament for Afram Plains North and Chairman of the Planning Committee, described the anniversary as a celebration of excellence, discipline, leadership and commitment to quality teacher education.
He said the college had, since its establishment in 1946, produced thousands of professionals, teachers, administrators, politicians and change-makers who had contributed immensely to national development.
Mr Kpeli appealed to alumni, corporate bodies, traditional authorities, government institutions and philanthropists to support the anniversary activities and the college’s development agenda.
He urged alumni across Ghana and beyond to reconnect with their alma mater and contribute meaningfully towards its continued growth and transformation.
