Accra, July 28, GNA – The Christian Council of Ghana (CCG) has expressed condolences to Uganda following a road crash that killed more than 20 pupils and a teacher of King David Junior School.
The victims were returning to Kampala from an educational excursion to Sipi Falls on Thursday, July 16, 2026, when the crash occurred.
In a statement signed by Reverend Dr Cyril G.K Fayose, General Secretary of the Council, the CCG said it received news of the tragedy “with profound sorrow and a heavy heart,” describing the loss of the children and their teacher as heartbreaking.
The Council said it continued to share in the grief of the bereaved families and all those affected nearly two weeks after the incident.
“The Council deeply regrets the magnitude of this loss of children who left homes, set out with joy and laughter in their hearts, full of dreams of a bright future, but did not return home to the loving arms of parents and families to share what they had set out to learn on the trip,” the statement said.
The CCG said it shared the pain of the parents, siblings, teachers, the school community and the people of Uganda.
“We weep with the mothers and fathers whose arms now ache with emptiness; with siblings who have lost playmates; with teachers who looked forward to grooming the children as their own; a community that would never forget this excruciating pain, and a nation that gasps for breath at this painful moment,” it said.
The Council assured the leadership, staff and students of King David Junior School, as well as the Government and people of Uganda, of Ghana’s prayers and solidarity during the period of mourning.
“Ghana, as a sister nation bound by faith, humanity, and the shared soil of this continent, holds you in our prayers,” it said.
The CCG prayed for comfort and strength for the bereaved families and communities affected by the tragedy.
It also commended the deceased pupils and their teacher to God while praying for the speedy recovery of those injured in the crash.
The Council expressed appreciation to medical personnel and first responders who worked during the rescue operation to minimise the impact of the disaster.
It called on churches in Ghana and across Africa to continue praying for Uganda and to provide spiritual and material support to affected families and communities.
Quoting Matthew 5:4, the Council said, “Blessed are those who mourn, for they shall be comforted,” and prayed that the peace of Christ would rest upon Uganda during the period of national mourning.
