Duu (UWR), May 25, GNA – Kuoro Kpiamouri Jebuni Poku III, Divisional Chief of Duu in the Sissala East Municipality, has appealed to government, investors and development partners to support the socio-economic development of the area.
He said increased investment in agriculture, healthcare, road infrastructure and telecommunications would significantly improve livelihoods within his traditional area.
Kuoro Poku made the appeal during his coronation and anniversary celebration at Duu, where he highlighted the vast agricultural potential of the area.
He encouraged investors to take advantage of the fertile lands in Duu and its surroundings.
“Investors are encouraged to come to Duu because we have arable land in Duu and its environs. We thank Farmer Pride, Cisse Farms, and all individuals investing in Duu through farming,” he stated.
The Chief used the occasion to express concern over rising cases of drug abuse among the youth, noting that the menace was contributing to indiscipline, unemployment, violence and insecurity.
He emphasised that tackling drug abuse required a collective effort from all stakeholders rather than leaving it solely to law enforcement agencies.
Kuoro Poku called on the Sissala East Municipal Assembly to establish rehabilitation and counselling centres, and urged the health sector to provide adequate support services for victims of substance abuse.
On environmental protection, he commended efforts to safeguard economic trees, particularly African rosewood, which has suffered extensive depletion in northern Ghana.
He reiterated that the ban on the harvesting and transportation of rosewood remained in force and warned that offenders would face the full rigours of the law.
Touching on infrastructure, the Chief lamented the deplorable condition of roads in the area and appealed to government and contractors to expedite ongoing road projects.
He expressed appreciation to the John Dramani Mahama-led Government for initiating major road works in the municipality and expressed optimism that the projects would enhance transportation and economic activities.
Kuoro Poku also underscored the importance of improved telecommunications services in accelerating development in the area.
He said Duu remained one of the few communities without a health facility and appealed to government and the Assembly to establish at least a health centre to serve the growing population.
Additionally, he expressed concern over the lack of ready markets for farm produce, particularly maize and soybeans, and appealed to government to increase funding for produce off-taking to ensure farmers receive fair returns for their efforts.
