Commonwealth Sports Ghana unveils Ghana House initiative to power Commonwealth Games campaign

Accra, May 08, GNA-Commonwealth Sports Ghana has officially unveiled the Ghana House initiative ahead of the 2026 Commonwealth Games in Glasgow, with the official press launch taking place in Accra. 

The initiative forms a key part of Ghana’s preparations for the Games, while also serving as a platform to showcase and promote the nation on the global stage throughout the competition. 

Ghana House at the 2026 Commonwealth Games in Glasgow would serve as a vibrant hub to showcase Ghanaian culture, tourism, and business opportunities as a way of creating meaningful connections between Ghana and the global community. 

Mr Richard Akpokavie, President of Commonwealth Sports Ghana, in his opening remarks, stated that the initiative was not only designed to position Ghana for success at the competition, but also to create avenues for economic growth, cultural exchange, and global partnerships. 

He noted that Commonwealth Sports Ghana, in line with the vision of Commonwealth Sport, believed that sports was no longer only about competition on the field, but also about uniting, inspiring, and empowering people. 

“As we prepare for Glasgow 2026, We are determined to create a platform to ensuring that Ghana’s presence goes beyond the field of play”, he said.   

He further praised Mr. Kofi Iddie Adams, Minister for Sports and Recreation for his commitment and unwavering support towards ensuring the successful implementation of the Ghana House initiative. 

The Sports Minister, underscored the need for Ghana to improve its performance at the Games, stressing that success on the field would draw greater global attention to the country. 

“The greatest traffic to Ghana House will be driven by our performance. When our athletes shine, Ghana shines,” he said. 

Present at the grand occasion were Mr. Seth Terkper, former Minister of Finance, Madam Maame Efua Houadjeto, Chief Executive Officer of the Ghana Tourism Authority, Professor Kobby Mensah, Chief Executive Officer of the Ghana Tourism Development Company, among other dignitaries.  

The 2026 Commonwealth Games will be held in Glasgow from July 23 to August 2, 2026.
