Anloga DCE appeals for renovation of Woe mini-inland harbour

Anloga (VR), May 6, GNA – Madam Sandra Seyram Kpedor, the Anloga District Chief Executive (DCE) in the Volta Region, has appealed to the Ministry of Fisheries and Aquaculture Development to facilitate the renovation of the 28-year-old Mini Inland Harbour at Woe.

Madam Kpedor made the appeal during a visit by Madam Emelia Arthur, the sector Minister to the District on Wednesday, May 6, to inspect key fishing facilities and engage with fisherfolk on challenges facing the industry.

Madam Kpedor, who led the delegation to Woe, said that the facilities were vital to the district’s economy in supporting fishing activities, job creation, and contributing to food supply across the region.

She noted that the Woe mini-Inland Harbour, constructed nearly three decades ago, had deteriorated significantly and was hampering fishing operations in the areas which also affect productivity and fishing activities in general.

“This harbour has served our people faithfully for nearly three decades, but it is now in urgent need of renovation, and we need the support from the government,” she said.

Madam Kpedor also appealed to all individuals, philanthropists, corporate organisations, non-governmental organisations, and others to also support and reshape the facility.

The Minister also toured both the Woe Mini Inland Harbour and the Anloga Landing Site, assessed their condition and interacted with fishermen, fish processors, and traders who depend on the facilities largely for their livelihoods.

Madam Arthur pledged the government’s commitment to supporting the fishing communities and promised to address the concerns with urgency.

She said the fishing industry remained the backbone of economic activity in the district and beyond, and the upgrading of such facilities was critical for local livelihoods and food security.

Mr Kwame Sorsorkpliwo, fisherman in the area, who spoke to the Ghana News Agency, expressed hope that the visit by the DCE and the Minister would lead to concrete action and the long-awaited rehabilitation of the Woe Mini Inland Harbour.
