Accra, April 15, GNA – Vice President Professor Naana Jane Opoku-Agyeman, has celebrated renowned legal practitioner, Tsatsu Tsikata, for his outstanding contributions to Ghana’s legal development and international legal discourse.
She said Mr Tsikata’s dedication, strong advocacy, and commitment to principles of justice had made him a respected figure in the legal profession and an inspiration to younger generations of lawyers
The Vice President was speaking at the UPSA Law School’s third Honorific Lecture and Award Ceremony in honour of Mr Tsatsu Tsikata, a private legal practitioner and scholar.
The UPSA Law School conferred a Lifetime Achievement in Law Award on him in recognition of his outstanding service and impact.
Mr Tsikata is being celebrateed for his remarkable lifetime achievements as distinguished lawyer, public servant, and legal academic.
She commended Mr Tsikata for his distinguished career, adding that his influence had extended beyond Ghana to the global legal community, where he had contributed significantly to legal scholarship and practice.
Prof. Opoku-Agyeman urged law students to emulate such exemplary leadership by cultivating discipline, courage, and a strong sense of purpose in their studies and future careers.
“The law requires discipline, courage, and a sense of purpose. It will be hard, but you must continue learning, even when it becomes inconvenient,” she said.


She emphasised that legal education was not only about academic excellence but also about using knowledge in service to society, stressing that lawyers play a critical role in strengthening democratic governance and upholding the rule of law.
She said Ghana’s constitutional and institutional development depended largely on the quality of professionals who engage within its systems, urging students to maintain high standards in their practice.
She said Universities played a role in nurturing intellectual growth and promoting excellence, adding that academic institutions remain central to shaping future leaders.
The Vice-President encouraged students to remain committed to continuous learning and resilience, even in the face of challenges, noting that perseverance was key to success in the legal profession.
She reaffirmed government’s recognition of the contributions of legal professionals and scholars to national development and expressed confidence in the ability of the next generation to build on the legacy of pioneers like Mr Tsikata.
