Tatale (N/R), April 14, GNA – Nakpale Bore Dawuni Attah Nkaraa II, Paramount Chief of the Tatale-Sangule Traditional Area, has commended government for extending the 24-hour Economy Market initiative to the district.
He described the project as transformative, noting that it would significantly improve the livelihoods of the people.
The Paramount Chief made the remarks when Mrs Mary Tagba, Tatale-Sangule District Chief Executive, accompanied by the Member of Parliament for the Tatale-Sangule Constituency, Mr Williams Ntebe Ayo, along with party supporters, contractors, consultants, engineers, and management of the Assembly, paid a courtesy call on him at his palace at Nakpale Borile in Tatale to brief him on the project.
Nakpale Bore Nkaraa II noted that the district’s strategic location as a border community would enable traders, especially women from neighbouring countries such as Togo and Benin, to participate in trading activities, thereby enhancing cross-border commerce.
He emphasised that peace remained critical to maximising the benefits of such development interventions, stating that without it, resources would be diverted to maintaining stability rather than fostering growth.
He urged residents to unite against poverty and desist from land and chieftaincy disputes that could hinder progress in the area, and tasked the contractor to ensure strict supervision of materials to prevent theft and misuse.
The Paramount Chief also appealed to John Dramani Mahama to visit the Tatale-Sangule Traditional Area, recalling their past acquaintance when he served as Minister for Information while the Chief worked as the District Information Officer for Yendi.
He expressed optimism that such a visit would strengthen ties and bring additional development to the area.
Mrs Tagba commended President Mahama for extending the 24-hour Economy Market to the district, noting that the initiative would boost the local economy.
She indicated that all necessary consultations had been completed, a suitable site secured, and construction works were expected to commence soon.
She added that the market project formed part of a broader package of development interventions in the district, including improvements in health, education, electricity, roads, and water supply.
Mr Ntebe said the project would create employment opportunities for the youth and enhance trading activities, especially among women in the district.
He urged residents to take ownership of the facility and ensure its proper maintenance upon completion.
Mr Agyeman Prempeh, contractor for the project, said the facility would include a mechanised borehole, a health centre, a security post, a Fire Service post, a warehouse, open market stalls, a kindergarten, sanitation facilities, and a Women’s Bank.
He explained that the inclusion of the Women’s Bank aligned with the President’s commitment to promoting women’s economic empowerment across the country.
The project is expected to be completed within 30 months.
