Techiman (Bono East), April 14, GNA-A total of 21 people died through 27 road crashes recorded in the Bono East Region from January to March 2026.
The Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Gideon Nanteeb Gutin, the Bono East Regional Commander of the Motor Traffic and Transport Department (MTTD) has said.
He said the crashes involved 31 vehicles comprising 11 commercial and 20 private vehicles, adding that three tricycles and seven motorbikes were also involved in crashes.
Speaking to the Ghana News Agency (GNA) at Techiman ASP Gutin noted, however, that the crashes had reduced compared to the first quarter of 2025.
He said most of the crashes happened due to driver negligence and cautioned drivers against speeding and wrongful overtaking as well as drunk driving.
ASP Gutin expressed concern about lack of alcoholmeters and limited speed reader guns to monitor drivers and called on the government to adequately resource the department, stressing the department’s dedication to collaborate with other road agencies to bring safety on the roads.
He said road safety education ought to be intensified at the lorry stations and on the airwaves to help stem the crashes in the region.
