Abesim (Bono), Nov. 08, GNA – Osagyefo Oseadeeyo Agyemang Badu II, the Paramount Chief of the Dormaa Traditional Area in the Bono Region, has praised Barima Kumi Acheaw III, the chief of Abesim for his passion for quality education and progressive development.

He presented GHC50,000 to support the Abesim Education Endowment Fund set up by the Abesim Divisional Council, which owed allegiance to the Dormaa Traditional Council (DTC) and to promote the growth and development of education.

Osagyefo Agyemang Badu, also the President of the Bono Regional House of Chiefs, asked the Abesim community members and natives both home and abroad, to support and contribute to the fund for it to achieve useful education outcomes.

The Paramount Chief explained that the DTC recognised and appreciated the immeasurable contribution of the chief of Abesim, also the Kyidomhene (divisional chief) of the DTC towards the growth of quality education.

Osagyefo Agyemang Badu gave the commendation in a speech read on his behalf by Barima Afari Mintah II, the Chief of Chiraa and the Benkumhene (divisional chief) of the DTC at the weekend, during a fund-raising durbar in aid of the endowment fund at Abesim, near Sunyani.

He asked the people to bury their differences, forge ahead in unity, and support the Kyidomhene to forward-push the holistic development of Abesim.

Describing Abesim as the gateway to the Bono Region, Osagyefo Agyemang Badu noted that prevailing peace in the area would advance development, saying that unnecessary chieftaincy disputes would only thwart progressive development.

He said he was highly optimistic that with support and cooperation from the community members, Barima Acheaw could bring the development of Abesim to the next level.

Osagyefo Agyemang Badu said the DTC had prioritied improved sanitation and proper waste management, and asked the people to support and always join the chief to undertake regular clean up exercises and to keep the area clean at all times.

He asked the Abesim Divisional Council to enforce traditional bye-laws on sanitation and ensure that everybody in the area participated in the periodic clean up exercises.

“Abesim owes allegiance to the DTC and if anybody wants to resist your traditional title or leadership, just report him/her to me,” Osagyefo Agyemang Badu warned.

Earlier, in a welcoming address, Barima Acheaw, commended the late Barima Kumi Acheaw II, his predecessor who established the endowment fund, and the entire people of Abesim for sustaining the fund.

He said since its establishment, the fund had provided educational scholarships to many brilliant but needy students to pursue secondary and tertiary education.

Barima Acheaw noted that quality education remained the surest legacy the community could bequeath to the youth of the area, and even generations yet to be born and called on the people to contribute to the fund.

He expressed appreciation to Osagyefo Oseadeeyo Agyemang Badu, corporate bodies, faith-based organisations and individuals who donated to the fund.

Barima Acheaw and his family also donated GHC15,000 while the Abesim Divisional Council also donated GHC5,000 to the fund.
