Damongo (S/R), April 21, GNA – The Public Interest and Accountability Committee (PIAC) has held a stakeholders’ forum at Damongo in the Savannah Region to discuss issues related to oil revenue management.
The forum sought to promote transparency and accountability in the management of the country’s oil and gas resources.
It was also to provide a platform for sharing updates on the 2025 PIAC report and gathering feedback.
Participants included civil society organizations, religious leaders, traditional authorities, students, and government officials.
Mr Salisu Be-Awuribe, Savannah, Regional Minister, speaking during the forum, mentioned some of the oil funded projects in the region to include a completed residential accommodation for the Savannah Regional Police Command, supply of furniture to the office of the Savannah Regional Coordinating Council and ongoing works on the Tamale-Salaga-Makango Road.
Others were Bole-Chache Road and the Bamboi-Sawla-Nyoli Road.
Mr Be-Awuribe said the region faced many challenges including low potable water coverage and high poverty rate, emphasizing the need for strategic and committed attention to bring more investment to speed up development in the area.
He commended government for the various projects in the region and appealed to members of PIAC to be strong advocates to help bring the needed development to the region.
Mr Isaac Dwamena, PIAC Secretariat Coordinator, who presented the 2025 Annual Report, said Ghana’s crude oil production had been declining for the past six years dropping from 71.4 million barrels in 2019 to 37.3 million barrels in 2025.
He said the situation was due to natural field depletion, aging oil fields and limited capital inflows into new drilling and field development.
He urged the government to attract investment and improve production efficiency to reverse the trend.
He assured stakeholders that PIAC was committed to ensuring oil and gas revenues were accounted for and utilized for the benefit of the citizenry.
As part of the Committee’s working visit to the region, a capacity building workshop was organized for media practitioners across the region to empower them to be more proactive in reporting on the gas and oil sector.
The Committee also inspected some completed and ongoing projects in the region.
