Agona Swedru (C/R), Aug. 1, GNA – The Metropolitan Archbishop of Cape Coast, Most Reverend Gabriel Charles Palmer-Buckle, has admonished catholic faithful to uphold the five pillars of Christianity to align with God’s purpose for humanity.
According to Archbishop Palmer-Buckle, it was important for church members to ensure that the five pillars of prayer, giving, sacrifice, heavenly wisdom, and love anchored on truth, honesty, and dedication were not abandoned.
He made the call during a programme to commemorate the 75th anniversary of the Catholic Church Parish at Agona Swedru.
The Archbishop said Christians could not preach virtue while practising vice, stressing that such behaviour breached Christ-like living and brought humiliation to Christendom.
Archbishop Palmer-Buckle paid glowing tribute to Bishop Kwadwo Amissah and other pioneers who made significant sacrifices towards the establishment of the Agona Swedru Parish 75 years ago.
He urged current members to emulate their commitment to support the growth of the Church.
He also called on Ghanaians to eschew dishonesty, corruption, and malfeasance in their workplaces, noting that such practices hindered economic growth and national progress.
Mr Ekow Okyere Panyin Aduamoah, Central Regional Minister, who was accompanied by Mr Eric Gyamfi Odoom, Municipal Chief Executive for Agona West, expressed concern about poor sanitation practices among some Ghanaians, which he said had contributed to recent flooding in parts of the country.
Mr Aduamoah said the Government had allocated substantial funds to Metropolitan, Municipal and District Assemblies (MMDAs) to address sanitation challenges, adding that those resources could otherwise be invested in other development projects.
He appealed to Ghanaians, particularly Christians, to keep their surroundings clean to help prevent perennial flooding and communicable diseases and promote the country’s socio-economic development.
Dr Eric Akobeng, a member of the Catholic Church Board, gave a brief history of the Agona Swedru Parish and recounted the sacrifices made by several priests to sustain and expand the Church.
He said some of the priests preached the Gospel in rural communities under difficult and perilous conditions, leading to the establishment of several churches under the Agona Swedru Parish.
Dr Akobeng urged members to contribute their quota towards the growth and development of the Church.
Nana Kweku Esieni V, Acting President of the Swedruman Council of Chiefs, advised the leadership of the Church to undertake development projects on parcels of land acquired by the Church to protect them from encroachment.
He urged the Church to prioritise investments in education, health and other human development projects and pledged the support of the Swedruman Council.
