Sunyani, Aug. 1, GNA – The Sunyani Technical University (STU) has launched a five-year strategic development plan aimed at accelerating the institution’s growth and transformation through the effective utilization of its resources.
Professor Kwadwo Adinkrah-Appiah, Vice Chancellor of STU, said the plan aligned with the University’s existing Master Plan and was designed to advance its vision and mission while responding to national development priorities.
Speaking at the launch of the University’s 60th anniversary celebration in Sunyani, he said the strategic plan, on the theme: “Educating for Innovation and Sustainable Transformation,” was built around two major pillars and nine strategic priorities that would guide the institution’s future operations.
According to Prof Adinkrah-Appiah, the first pillar focuses on promoting academic and research excellence for industrialisation, with emphasis on teaching, research, invention, innovation and industrial development.
He said the pillar would position STU as a hub for developing practical solutions to support industry and national growth.
The University, he noted, would strengthen its faculties to offer market-driven and innovative Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) programmes that produce graduates with industry-relevant skills and contribute directly to Ghana’s industrialisation agenda.
To enhance academic delivery, STU plans to modernise and expand its physical infrastructure to create a more conducive environment for teaching, learning, and research.
The institution will also expand the integration of Information and Communication Technology (ICT) and Artificial Intelligence (AI) to improve operational efficiency and service delivery.
Prof Adinkrah-Appiah said another key priority under the first pillar was strengthening the University’s Quality Management System to ensure continuous improvement in academic and administrative processes and maintain high institutional standards.
The second pillar, which focuses on resource mobilisation and governance, seeks to strengthen the University’s internal systems and capacity for sustainable growth.
He said the pillar prioritises improved resource mobilisation and sound financial management to secure sustainable funding for programmes and projects.
The University would also invest in human resource development and strengthen governance structures to build a more efficient, accountable, and responsive institution.
In addition, STU intends to develop a stronger organisational brand that reflects its identity and values while enhancing internationalisation through strategic partnerships and collaborations beyond Ghana.
Prof Adinkrah-Appiah said the University would further strengthen its alumni engagement by building a vibrant alumni network capable of contributing expertise and resources towards institutional development.
He said the University remained committed to the full implementation of the strategic plan, expressing confidence that it would significantly enhance STU’s development and impact.
Prof Adinkrah-Appiah appealed to corporate organisations, development partners and alumni to support the University’s 60th anniversary celebrations and its efforts to advance STEM and TVET education for industrial leadership and sustainable development.
He commended the Sunyani Traditional Council for its continuous support towards the growth of the University and paid tribute to the late Paramount Chief of Sunyani, Odeneho Ogyeamansan Boahen Korkor II, for his role in protecting the institution’s lands from encroachment.
Established by Ghana’s first President, Dr Kwame Nkrumah, the institution was converted into the Sunyani Technical Institute in 1996 to provide hands-on training in craft programmes.
It was later upgraded to a polytechnic and subsequently elevated to a technical university in 2016 to offer degree, diploma and certificate programmes in engineering, science and technology-related disciplines.
