Sunyani, (Bono), April 14, GNA-The Sunyani-based Global Media Foundation (GloMeF) an anti-corruption and media advocacy Non-Governmental Organisation has lauded the integrity of the police in fighting crime in the country.

In a statement issued and signed by Mr Raphael Godlove Ahenu, the Founder and Chief Executive Officer of GloMeF, the foundation praised the Inspector-General of Police (IGP) Christian Tetteh Yohunu’s administration.

A copy of the statement made available to the Ghana News Agency (GNA) in Sunyani said that: “We commend the IGP for a renewed commitment and integrity of the police service towards combating armed robbery and organized crime in the country”.

It said the IGP’s leadership deserved praise for the police dedication in intensifying intelligence-led operations aimed at dismantling criminal networks, and restoring public confidence in law enforcement.

The statement indicated that: “The appointment of IGP in March 2025 has brought a renewed energy and professionalism into the police service and thereby leading to a series of arrests and security operations targeting armed robbery, cybercrime and other criminal operations”.

It noted that: “Since assuming office, the IGP has strongly motivated police personnel to work with integrity and honesty, committing to protecting lives and properties”, adding that: “The IGP has truly inspired many personnel to work with integrity”.

“For some police personnel consistently rejecting bribes in the line of their duties is almost a miracle and that shows that the police administration is setting the right example”, it added.

Security reports indicate that intensified operations by the police have led to hundreds of arrests linked to robbery, cybercrime, narcotics trafficking, and other criminal activities across the country.

In one major regional crackdown alone, the police recorded over 1,000 arrests within three months in the Northern Region as part of an intelligence-led security operation aimed at disrupting criminal gangs.

The statement explained that the action of the police remained critical in addressing the growing threat of armed robbery and crime wave in the country, and called on the public to support the police by volunteering credible information that could help security agencies track down criminals.

“The fight against crime cannot be left to the police alone. Citizens ought to cooperate with the police by providing timely information that will help prevent crime and ensure that criminals are brought to justice”, it added.

It urged the government to continue providing adequate resources and logistics, modern technology, and improved welfare packages for police personnel to enable them to perform their duties effectively.

The statement urged the leadership of the police to sustain ongoing anti-crime operations to build a better and safer society for all.
