DzodzeĀ (V/R), April 30, GNA – Rev Martin Amenaki, Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) of Ketu North, has inaugurated the Weta and Afife Zonal Councils in line with Legislative Instrument (L.I.) 1967, reaffirming the Assembly’s commitment to deepening decentralisation and strengthening governance at the grassroots.Ā

The inauguration formed part of efforts by the Ketu North Municipal Assembly to bring governance and decision-making closer to the people and improve local participation in development planning and implementation.

The ceremonies featured the swearing-in of members, election of officers and orientation on the roles, responsibilities and operational mandate of the councils.

Rev Amenaki said the establishment of the zonal councils was a critical step towards improving service delivery, promoting effective local administration and ensuring that development interventions reflected the needs and priorities of residents in the various communities.

He noted that the councils would serve as vital links between the Assembly and the people, helping to facilitate community engagement, mobilise local resources and support the implementation of Assembly programmes at the grassroots level.

Rev Amenaki urged members of the newly inaugurated councils to discharge their duties with integrity, diligence, and a strong sense of public service.

He said their roles were essential in promoting accountability, strengthening citizen participation, and advancing the development agenda of the Municipality.

ā€œAs an Assembly, we remain committed to supporting the effective functioning of the councils to enable them to deliver meaningful development outcomes for the people of Weta, Afife and the entire Ketu North Municipality,ā€ he said.

Rev Amenaki said the Assembly would continue to work closely with the zonal councils to ensure that local governance structures remain responsive, inclusive, and development oriented.

He expressed confidence that the inauguration of the councils would enhance coordination at the local level and contribute significantly to the Assembly’s vision of building a stronger and more prosperous Ketu North.

Mr Bernard Sakyiama, Municipal Coordinating Director, advised members of the councils to uphold the principles of transparency, accountability and teamwork in the discharge of their duties.

He urged them to remain committed to the collective interest of their communities and work in close collaboration with the Assembly to address local challenges and improve livelihoods.

Mr Sakyiama said the effectiveness of the councils would depend largely on the commitment of members to serve selflessly and place the development needs of the people above personal interests.

He encouraged them to see their appointments as an opportunity to contribute meaningfully to local development and the progress of the municipality.

The inauguration of the Weta and Afife Zonal Councils forms part of the Assembly’s broader strategy to strengthen local governance structures and improve participatory development across the Ketu North Municipality.
