Kumasi, April 30, GNA – The National House of Chiefs has called on government and employers to prioritise the welfare of workers through improved remuneration and incentives to enhance productivity and national development.

The call was contained in a statement issued by the Public Relations Unit of the House and signed by Mr. Stephen Owusu for the President, Ogyeahoho Yaw Gyebi II, to mark the 2026 May Day celebration.

The statement congratulated Ghanaian workers for their dedication and invaluable contributions to the growth of the economy, describing their efforts as critical to national development.

It noted that May Day remained a fitting tribute to the resilience, commitment and industrious spirit of workers across all sectors of the economy.

“Without work, society fails and wealth creation becomes impossible,” the statement said, adding that many workers remained unappreciated despite their significant contributions.

The House emphasised that workers were central to national progress and urged stakeholders to recognise their role by creating favourable working conditions.

It also called on workers to remain committed to their duties and continue contributing to national development.

The statement further urged Ghanaians to protect the environment, warning that the destruction of forests, water bodies and arable lands, particularly through illegal mining, posed a serious threat to livelihoods and national well-being.

It appealed to state authorities to strictly enforce the laws to safeguard lives and property and ensure sustainable use of natural resources.

The House called on all categories of workers, including professionals, artisans and security personnel, to unite in solidarity towards building a prosperous nation for present and future generations.

“Together in strength, we achieve a lot,” the statement said.

It wished all workers a happy May Day and prayed for strength and prosperity for the nation.
