Accra, April 3, GNA – The Janok Foundation, a community-based non-governmental organisation has partnered with health facilities in three districts in the Greater Accra Region, to mark the 2026 World Tuberculosis (TB) Day with free health screening activities.
The health facilities are the Chest Clinic at the Korle-Bu Teaching Hospital, the Ablekuma Central Municipal Health Directorate and the Ablekuma North Municipal Health Directorate.
Among the communities that benefitted from the free TB screening included Zongo Ayigbe Town, Laterbiokorshie Zongo Market and Darkuman Accra Station.
The TB Day is celebrated yearly globally in every March, to create awareness of the disease and to help curb its spread among the people.

Madam Jane Amerley Oku, the Chief Executive Officer of the Foundation in an interview with the Ghana News Agency, called on the government to raise local fund to support TB awareness campaign and treatment since global grant for health support in Ghana was dwindling.
She further called for the recognition and acknowledgement of the work of NGOs that put in much effort in ensuring the people got the right information and treatment support on TB.
Madam Oku sensitising the people on the disease said, “Tuberculosis is curable. And that when a person coughs for more than two weeks then screening is the next step. TB treatment is free so one shouldn’t wait for it to get worst.”

Mr Stanley Botchway, the Project Coordinator at the Janok Foundation stated that TB is airborne disease and that screening helps in its early detection and treatment to prevent its spreading.
He said the disease could be usually spread in poorly ventilated places and for one to prevent the spread was by covering the mouth when coughing or sneezing or by using facemask when necessary.
He said early detection and treatment could stop the spread of TB and save lives.
