Asokore-Mampong (Ash), Aug. 10, GNA – Dr Frank Amoakohene, Ashanti Regional Minister, has cautioned students against acts of vandalism and attacks on teachers in their various campuses.
He said the rising spate of assaults on teachers and destruction of school properties by some students as reported in the media, was worrying and there was the need for students to put a stop to it, since such behavior could derail academic work and compromise educational environment.
Dr Amoakohene made the call, when he addressed students of Kumasi Academy (KUMACA) at the launch of the school’s 70th anniversary logo and cloth at the school auditorium in Kumasi.
The anniversary will be held under the theme: “Shaping character, cultivating minds, and nurturing souls.”
The official launch marks the formal commencement of a year-long calendar of milestone activities leading up to the grand anniversary durbar.
Activities lined up include a health walk, exhibition, fun-filled games, a speech and prize-giving day, entertainment, and thanksgiving services.
The global alumni associations including branches in the United States and the United Kingdom are also mobilising resources to fund critical infrastructure development on campus.
They include the expansion of the school’s newly completed dormitory blocks and upgrading dining hall facilities.
Dr Amoakohene stated that Kumasi Academy had long been recognised for discipline and urged students not to allow the hard-earned reputation of the school to be undermined by indiscipline.
He appealed to the students to continue observing the strict standards of discipline instilled by the Baptist missionaries.
Referencing a recent incident at Obuasi Secondary Technical School, where the headmaster was attacked and school property vandalised, he described the conduct as unacceptable and called for no repetition in any institution.
He explained that teacher discipline did not necessarily reflect hatred, but rather, a structured approach to preparing students to become responsible and productive citizens.
Mr Samuel Gato, Headmaster of Kumasi Academy, said the school had produced distinguished individuals and prominent personalities since 1957, making the commemoration of 70 years a momentous milestone deserving of celebration.
He said it was a shared responsibility among contemporary leaders and alumni to organise and mark the occasion in honour of the school’s past, and therefore encouraged students, alumni, and relevant stakeholders to collaborate and make sacrifices towards the successful celebration slated for next year, 2027.
The event was graced by Nana Boakye Yam Ababio II (Nkwantakesehene); Mr Amo Kamel, the MCE for Asokwa; Mr Ben Abdullah Alhassan, the MCE for Asokore-Mampong; heads of institutions; together with members of the clergy, staff, and students.
