Bonsu (Bono East), April 06, GNA – Sheikh Abdul Mumin Abubarkari Sampene, the Bono and Ahafo Regional Manager of the Islamic Schools, has commended the government for strengthening Technical and Vocational Education Training (TEVT) in the country.

He advised families to encourage their children and wards preparing for the 2026 Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) to opt for TVET in pursuing their academic path, saying that TVET remained a realistic intervention to address the nation’s growing unemployment.

Sheikh Sampene gave the advice in an interview with the Ghana News Agency (GNA) on the sidelines of closing session of the 2026 Annual camp of the Youth Wing of the Islamic Mission Secretariat (IMS) held at Bonsu in the Nkoranza South Municipality of the Bono East region.

“TVET is a key driver for youth employment and development,” he stated, saying that the government’s dedication to strengthen TVET education in the country ought to be appreciated.

Sheikh Sampene also commended the government for absorbing the Islamic Mission Technical Institute at Duayaw-Nkwanta in the Ahafo Region into the public TVET system.

He said the Islamic Mission TVET and Senior High Schools had over 500 students nationwide and encouraged families not to downplay TVET education.

He said the Islamic Mission TVET at Duayaw-Nkwanta offered courses in automobile technology, electrical technology, fashion design, building and construction, and hospitality management.

It also offered programmes in General Arts, Science, Home Economics and Business and advised families to enroll their children and wards.

Sheikh Abdul Mumin lauded the commitment of the teachers in shaping the students with practical knowledge, skills and ability to become successful future entrepreneurs and problem solvers for the nation.
