Atwima Nwabiagya South MP Urges BECE Candidates to Avoid Distractions, Cheating

By Charles Tawiah

Nkawie, April 28, GNA — Madam Shirly Kyei, Member of Parliament for Atwima Nwabiagya South, has advised candidates sitting for the Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) to avoid distractions such as social media, gaming and betting during the examination period.

She described the examination period as a critical stage in students’ academic journey, noting that it determines their next step on the educational ladder and can significantly influence their future.

Ms Kyei gave the advice during the presentation of free mathematical sets to BECE candidates in selected school clusters at Nkawie and Abuakwa in the constituency.

A total of 3,347 mathematical sets, valued at GH¢34,400, were handed over to the Municipal Directorate of Education for onward distribution to all candidates preparing for the examinations scheduled from May 4 to May 8, 2026.

She encouraged the candidates to approach the examinations with confidence, honesty and focus, urging them to give their best and remain disciplined throughout the period.

Ms Kyei also appealed to parents to reduce the domestic workload of their wards to enable them to concentrate fully on their studies.

The MP further cautioned candidates against examination malpractice, stressing that success achieved through dishonest means could have long-term consequences.

Nana Pokuaa Amoako, the Municipal Director of Education, also warned candidates to refrain from all forms of malpractice, noting that stringent measures had been put in place to ensure the integrity of the examination.

She disclosed that heads of schools, supervisors, invigilators and other stakeholders, along with district directors of education, had signed undertakings as part of efforts to curb malpractice.

According to her, the candidates had been adequately prepared through class exercises, tests and mock examinations, and should rely on their knowledge and abilities to excel without resorting to cheating.

She expressed confidence that the candidates could achieve success through hard work and determination.
