Ho (V/R), March 20, GNA – Thousands of Muslims in Ho gathered at the Nuriya Islamic School Park at Ho New Zongo to celebrate Eid al-Fitr, marking the end of the 30-day fast period of Ramadan.
The congregation offered prayers and expressed gratitude to Almighty Allah for granting them the strength and guidance to successfully complete the holy month.
Alhaji Hamidu Alfa Anas, Volta Regional Chief Imam, who led the prayers, described the period of Ramadan as one of spiritual reflection, sacrifice, and devotion, urging the faithful to continue upholding values such as patience, forgiveness, compassion, unity, and peaceful coexistence.
“As we celebrate this blessed occasion, we must carry forward the lessons of Ramadan into our daily lives and work towards building a more united and compassionate society,” he said.
However, he expressed concern over a recent attack on the Muslim community in Ho by unidentified gunmen, which left some members injured.
He noted that although suspects were reportedly arrested and handed over to the appropriate authorities, their release without prosecution had raised serious concerns and heightened anxiety within the community.
The situation, he said, had been worsened by the closure of the affected mosque, which had disrupted worship activities and caused distress among community members.
Alhaji Anas called on the relevant authorities to take urgent and decisive action to ensure justice and accountability for the perpetrators, provide adequate security for the Muslim community, and restore normalcy by addressing the closure of the mosque.
“We urge the authorities to uphold the rule of law, fairness, and religious tolerance to maintain peace and harmony within the community,” he stated.
He encouraged members of the Muslim community to remain steadfast in their faith, exercise patience, and continue to promote peace and unity despite the challenges.
He also urged the youth to exercise caution while driving and riding on the roads during the Eid al-Fitr celebrations to prevent accidents and ensure the safety of all.
Meanwhile, the celebration also witnessed an act of generosity from Hope In Christ Butread, led by Prophet Prince Cirro Atsu, who donated bags of sachet water, cartons of malt drinks, and packs of bottled water to support the Muslim community during the festivities.
The Eid celebration brought together people from different backgrounds, reinforcing the spirit of togetherness, charity, and mutual respect in the Ho Municipality.
