Accra, June 1, GNA – Myres Manuel Odonkor Junior emerged champion of the Accra edition of the 1v1 Africa Football Challenge after a thrilling display of football skills at the AIS Astro Turf in East Legon.
His victory earned him the top prize of GHS100,000 in a competition that attracted talented footballers from across the country and drew hundreds of enthusiastic spectators.
The one-on-one football tournament, which focuses on individual skill, creativity and composure under pressure, delivered an action-packed spectacle as participants battled for supremacy in front of a lively crowd.
Odonkor Junior produced a series of impressive performances throughout the competition before securing victory in the final.
Opoku Elvis finished second to claim GHS50,000, while Chris Mensah placed third and received GHS25,000.
Senyo Martin was adjudged Best Goalkeeper and took home GHS30,000 for his outstanding performances during the tournament.
Organisers said more than GHS400,000 in prize money was awarded to participants during the competition.
The event, hosted by renowned musician and entrepreneur Mr Eazi and supported by Mobike, combined football, entertainment and community engagement, creating an exciting atmosphere for players and supporters alike.
One of the highlights of the day was a special exhibition match between popular Ghanaian actor Sulley Sadik and Mr Eazi.
The friendly but competitive encounter generated excitement among spectators and became one of the most talked-about moments of the event.
The Accra competition followed the successful launch of the tournament in Lagos, Nigeria, where the innovative format attracted significant attention for its emphasis on raw football talent and individual expression.
Speaking after the event, Mr Eazi commended the players for their performances and praised the enthusiasm shown by football fans in Ghana.
He described the Accra edition as further evidence of the abundance of football talent across the continent and reaffirmed the organisers’ commitment to expanding the competition to other African cities.
“Ghana showed up today. The level of talent we saw on this pitch was incredible. What makes 1v1 Africa special is giving players a platform to express themselves and be seen.
“After Lagos, it feels great to be here in Accra and this is only the beginning of what we want to build across Africa,” he said.
Many spectators said the tournament provided a unique platform for young footballers to showcase their abilities in a highly competitive environment, where every contest carried significant intensity.
With successful editions already held in Lagos and Accra, the 1v1 Africa Football Challenge is steadily establishing itself as one of Africa’s emerging grassroots football platforms, offering opportunities for talented players to gain exposure while entertaining football enthusiasts.
