Accra, June 1, GNA – The Ghana Immigration Service (GIS) has successfully repatriated 105 foreign nationals to their home countries following an intelligence-led anti-trafficking operation in Asankragwa that led to the rescue of 112 individuals suspected of being trafficked into Ghana.

This was contained in an official statement copied to the Ghana News Agency (GNA).

The operation, carried out on May 20, 2026, was executed by the Asankragwa Sector Command under Assistant Commissioner of Immigration (ACI) Kwabena Adjei. It targeted premises suspected to be used for the exploitation of persons engaged in commercial sex activities within the area.

Initial screening of those rescued revealed that the group comprised 110 Nigerians, one Beninese, and one Cameroonian—all females aged between 12 and 38 years. They were subsequently transferred to a holding facility in the Greater Accra Region for further processing and investigation.

Following further investigations by the Anti-Human Smuggling and Trafficking in Persons (AHSTIP) Unit of the Service, authorities identified seven suspects linked to the case and confirmed 105 individuals as victims of trafficking.

The National Operations Department of the GIS, working in close collaboration with relevant embassies and Cameroonian community representatives in Ghana, facilitated the safe return of the victims to their respective countries.

The seven suspects are currently under investigation and are expected to be prosecuted if found culpable.

The Comptroller-General of Immigration, Samuel Basintale Amadu, urged all foreign nationals residing in Ghana to comply with immigration and criminal laws.

He reaffirmed the Service’s commitment to working with other security agencies to combat human trafficking, migrant smuggling, and other transnational crimes, while ensuring the protection of vulnerable persons from exploitation.
