Susuanho (Ahafo), March 04, GNA – The Tano North Municipal Directorate of the National Commission for Civic Education (NCCE) in the Ahafo Region has sensitised the residents of Susuanho, a farming community in the Municipality on Social Auditing.
The day’s sensitisation held at Susuanho near Duayaw-Nkwanta, the Municipal capital enlightened and inspired the residents to participate actively in local government, as well as to promote transparency and accountability.
It was attended by chiefs, queens, assembly members, as well as teachers, religious organisations, youth and women leaders and some Persons with Disabilities (PwDs).
Addressing the participants, Mr Eric Adomako, the Tano North Municipal Coordinating Director, commended the NCCE for the event, saying that the people’s involvement in decision making remained essential.
Mr Victor Osei, the Tano North Municipal Director of the Commission on Human Rights and Administrative Justice (CHRAJ), also urged citizens to demand accountability from duty bearers.
He said demanding accountability would enable public officers to work hard, saying that: “If public officials realised that citizens don’t care about anything, then they will do what they want.”
Mr Eric Adu, the Ahafo Regional Director of the NCCE who took the participants through the social auditing concept called for active community engagement in the decision process of the assembly.
He said with the engagement, executing development projects would be based on needs assessment to benefit the people.
The social auditing further served as a platform for duty bearers to also account for their stewardship to the people in a non-political manner in identifying gaps in policy delivery.
Mr Adu expressed appreciation to the GIZ and its partners for supporting NCCE to deliver on their constitutional mandate of enhancing civic education.
