Relief in sight for residents of Daaban Newsite as road project nears completion

By Yussif Ibrahim

Kumasi, March 11, GNA – Residents of Daaban Newsite in Kumasi are expected to experience significant relief in the coming months, as a major road construction project in the area approaches its completion.

The six-kilometre road network, which has for decades been characterised by dusty conditions during the dry season and severe accessibility challenges during the rains, is now nearing its final stages.

Upon completion, the road will provide a crucial link for commuters travelling between Daaban Newsite, Sokoban, Santase and Ejisu, improving connectivity within the metropolis.

Mr Richard Ofori Agyemang Boadi, the Metropolitan Chief Executive, inspected the project site together with engineers and technical officers overseeing the construction works.

The project is being executed by Doncross Limited under the supervision of the relevant road authorities.

Mr Boadi expressed satisfaction with the progress and quality of work done so far.

He noted that the ongoing road improvement project reflected the government’s commitment to upgrading such infrastructure within urban communities, to improve the living conditions of residents.

He said, the completion of the project would not only enhance mobility within the area, but would also significantly reduce the dust pollution that had long affected residents and businesses in Daaban Newsite.

He pointed out that improved road infrastructure was essential for economic growth, explaining that, the project was expected to ease traffic congestion, promote commercial activities and increase property values in the area.

Engineers on site indicated that major drainage works had already been completed to ensure proper water flow and prevent flooding along the road corridor.

Currently, the construction team is undertaking final compaction works in preparation for the application of the bitumen surface.

Bitumen surfacing is scheduled to begin next week, marking the final phase of the project before it is opened to motorists.

Mr Na-em Iddrisu, the Ashanti Regional Director of Urban Roads, who was also part of the inspection team, assured residents that the road would be opened to traffic within the next two weeks if work continued at the current pace.

Following the inspection at Daaban Newsite, Mr Boadi and his team proceeded to Duase Newsite, where they assessed road conditions and challenges faced by residents in that community.

Residents of Duase Newsite have long complained about the poor state of their roads, which they say affected transportation, access to essential services and general economic activities.

City authorities indicated that preliminary steps were currently being taken to address the situation.

Plans are underway for the construction of a new road network that will connect Duase Newsite to Buoban and Asokore Mampong.

Authorities say the initiative is aimed at improving accessibility in rapidly developing communities within the Kumasi metropolis while supporting economic growth and urban development.
