Kente weaver calls for support to boost production in Ghana month

Nkwanta (O/R), March 11, GNA – Pastor Isaac Godzo, the head Pastor of the Church of New Generation, has called for increased support for local weavers to help boost productivity and preserve Ghana’s rich cultural heritage as the country celebrate Ghana month.

Speaking to the Ghana News Agency, during a visit to his Kente weaving centre, in the Nkwanta South Municipality of the Oti Region, he said the art of Kente weaving remains an important cultural and economic activity in the Municipality.

However, he noted that many local weavers face challenges such as limited access to modern weaving equipment, financial constraints, and inadequate market opportunities.

Pastor Isaac, an entrepreneur, doubling as a Kente weaver, explained that although Kente weaving has the potential to create employment and generate income for many young people, the lack of support is slowing down the growth of the industry.

He emphasized that the celebration of Ghana month should not only focus on promoting traditional attire but also on supporting the artisans who work tirelessly to produce the fabrics.

Pastor Godzo therefore appealed to the government, private organisations, and individuals to invest in the local Kente industry by providing financial assistance, training opportunities, and improved weaving tools.

He also encouraged the youth in the area to learn craft, describing it as a valuable skill that can promote cultural identity and economic independence.

Kente, one of Ghana’s most recognised traditional fabrics, symbolizes prestige, cultural pride, and identity, which has since gained national and international recognition as a symbol of Ghanaian culture.

Pastor Isaac believes that with the right support, Kente weaving in the area can grow into a major cultural and economic activity that will benefit many people in the municipality.
