Wa, (UW/R), Sept. 06, GNA – Hajia Anisa Nasirudeen Iddrisu, the Sadr Lajna Ima’illah, Ghana, has appealed to world leaders to take the necessary action to help end hostilities against innocent people in Palestine, particularly women and children.
She said women and children were the most vulnerable and worst affected in conflicts and wars, and called for urgent measures to restore peace in that country to enable children to return to school.
Hajia Iddrisu made the appeal in Wa when she addressed the 44th Annual Ijtema’a of the Ahmadiyya Muslim Women’s Association (Lajna Ima’illah), on the theme “You are the Best People Raised for the Good of Mankind” (Qur’an 3:111).
Representatives of the Lajna Ima’illah Burkina Faso and Zimbabwe, as well as members of the Christian Women’s Association, Presbyterian Women’s Association and the Federation of Muslim Women Associations of Ghana (FOMWAG), among others, attended the conference.
The three-day conference commenced with a route march of the thousands of participants along some principal streets of Wa amidst songs of praise to Allah.
“Where war is being perpetrated against innocent people, women and children suffer the most; they are the vulnerable ones.
May they (the world leaders) have mercy on us. May you listen to our grand call that we need peace in the world”, the Sadr Lajna Ima’illah said.
She stressed that children need peace to attend school, acquire knowledge, and prepare to take up leadership responsibilities in the future.
Hajia Iddrisu said the call for the good of humanity transcended religious boundaries, urging people of all faiths to adhere to the principles of their respective religious teachings that promoted peace, compassion and peaceful coexistence.
She said the injunction for people to work for the good of mankind is not limited to Muslims, but is also contained in the scriptures of other religions.
“If they may adhere to it, as we Muslims are also striving to adhere to the commandments of the Holy Quran, the world will be a peaceful place for us to live in, so we can account to our Lord on the day of accountability”, she said.
She explained that the annual Ijtema provides members with an opportunity to congregate under one banner to worship Allah, strengthen their spiritual lives and discuss issues relating to morality and their responsibilities to society.
She said women, particularly mothers, have an important role to play in nurturing children with good moral values, truthfulness, dedication and a spirit of sacrifice.
Hajia Iddrisu also encouraged members to strengthen their bonds, build relationships and support one another spiritually and emotionally.
She urged members to continue striving for spiritual, moral and physical development, including participation in activities that promote their health and welfare.
Pognaa Fatima Mahama, President of the Paramount Queenmothers Association, Upper West Region, said within the traditional society, the woman is regarded as the heartbeat of the home and the pillar of the community.
Speaking on the theme, she said to be the best, women must lead by example, by instilling high moral values in children, supporting the vulnerable, and spreading peace wherever they are.
