Qatar’s prime minister calls on Iran to de-escalate

Tehran, March 8, (dpa/GNA) – Qatari Prime Minister and Foreign Minister, Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al Thani has called for de-escalation in the Iran war.

“We continue to seek de-escalation,” Al Thani said in an interview with Sky News. “They are our neighbours. It’s our destiny.”

The minister said Iran’s “attacks on the Gulf countries, we never expected this from our neighbour,” adding that Tehran’s “justifications and pretexts they are using are completely rejected.”

Al Thani stressed that, while “the miscalculation by the Iranians to attack Gulf countries has destroyed everything,” diplomacy is the answer to the current crisis, also calling on the United States to de-escalate.

Iran has carried out attacks across the Middle East for the past week, in response to US and Israeli military strikes inside Iran. The attacks have targeted US military bases, as well as civilian sites such as airports and residential buildings.

Strikes have been reported in around a dozen Arab countries, with Gulf states including the United Arab Emirates, Kuwait and Qatar reporting a particularly high number of incidents.
