Washington, March 8, (dpa/GNA) – US President Donald Trump says, the US military had destroyed Iran’s navy, in comments to ABC news published on Sunday.
The US sank 44 of its ships, “their entire navy,” Trump said, though the information could not initially be independently verified.
Putting the entire Iranian Navy out of action is one of the US military’s declared goals in its war on Iran.
The US has also paralysed the Iranian Air Force, Trump claimed. “We’ve knocked out their entire Air Force… Their anti-aircraft systems are gone. They have absolutely no defence,” he said, according to ABC News.
Iran’s Tasnim news agency, which is close to Iran’s elite Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps, reported that 104 crew members died in the US attack on frigate IRIS Dena and another 20 people are missing.
The 32 crew members who survived are being treated for injuries in a hospital in Sri Lanka, it said. The ship was fired upon and sunk by a US Navy submarine last week, reports said.
