Accra, March 17, GNA – The Chief of the Defence Staff (CDS), Lieutenant General William Agyapong, has urged students to prioritise education, discipline and patriotism as key pillars for national development.
He gave the advice when he hosted a 50-member delegation of schoolchildren from Antoa in the Ashanti Region during a one-day familiarisation visit to Accra on Monday.
The group comprised 40 pupils from Antoa M/A Primary and JHS, CB Mensah SDA JHS, Adesina M/A Basic School and Antoa United Primary, as well as five teachers and five community representatives.
It was led by the Asunahene of Antoa, Nana Sarkodie Dartey.
At the General Headquarters of the Ghana Armed Forces, Lt Gen Agyapong shared his service experience with the pupils and encouraged them to remain focused on their studies, noting that academic discipline was essential to achieving their ambitions.
He urged them to build strong character, respect authority and ground their aspirations in faith and patriotism.
The visit formed part of efforts by the Military High Command to strengthen civil-military relations and inspire the youth to contribute to national development.
During the tour, the delegation witnessed the 47th ceremonial guard changing at the Jubilee House and later visited the 153 Armoured Reconnaissance Regiment, where they learned about its role in national defence.
The pupils also observed military equipment, enjoyed a ride in armoured vehicles and watched a silent drill display by personnel of the Regiment.
Nana Sarkodie Dartey expressed appreciation to the CDS, describing the initiative as a memorable and inspiring experience for both the pupils and the Antoa community.
The visit would leave a lasting impact and motivate the students to aim higher, he said.
