Blekusu Dunenyo Easter celebration to commence on April 1

Blekusu (V/R), March 24, GNA – The 2026 edition of Dunenyo Easter celebration by the people of Blekusu in the Ketu South Municipality of the Volta Region, is scheduled to take place from April 1 to April 5. 

The five-day celebration would feature a variety of activities, including clean up exercises, football gala, health walk and health screening, street carnival, beauty pageant, artist night and a grand durbar on Saturday, April 4, which would be followed by a thanksgiving service on Sunday, April 5. 

Mr Nukamewor Raphael, the assembly member of Blekusu Electoral Area, a member of the Easter festival celebration Planning Committee Member, in an interview with the Ghana News Agency, said that the celebration would reaffirms the enduring love, peace and unity among the people of Blekusu and the whole the Ketu South Municipality. 

“We are expecting this year’s celebration to showcase the rich culture of Blekusu and that of the entire Ketu South and Volta Region. It will be full of fun in unity and togetherness,” he said. 

He explained that the objective of Dunenyo Easter celebration was not to only build Blekusu but also to serve as a reminder that residents must embrace peace, pursue justice for all, and prioritise unity across all the communities within Blekusu. 

He emphasised that all individuals including stakeholders should be peacemakers at various workplaces such as home, farms among others to help resolve any conflict or misunderstanding among one another for a successful celebration. 

“Let us also demand transparency and fairness in both traditional and civic governance to ensure equal opportunities for all so we can welcome our brothers and sisters from within and beyond.” 

Torgbui Agbali III, the Divisional Chief of Blekusu, also stated that building of Blekusu would be a shared commitment and responsibility which would aim to make the area a premiere town in the Region and the country as a whole. 

He used the opportunity and appealed to all citizens of Blekusu to contribute their quota to the development of the town, adding that, “every individual should start something before we call on the government and the stakeholders for assistance.” 

Torgbui Ahiable, noted that the people of Blekusu were noted for peace and unity and the traditional leaders as well as the community would do everything within their capacity, to maintain peace and unity among the people in the area. 

Other chiefs of Blekusu, including Torgbui Ekey III, stated that a community could only develop unity and oneness and urged that all citizens of Blekusu should be committed and assist in the development of their town. 

Some the invited guests expected to grace the celebration include Madam Abla Dzifa Gomashie, the Member of Parliament (MP) for Ketu South Constituency and Minister of Tourism Culture and Creative Arts, Mr Nicholas Kwabla Worklachie, the Ketu South Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) and Mr Felix Akonta also known as Torgbui Tenuvi II, a Development chief of Aflao Traditional Area, assembly members among others. 

The celebration which would mark another significant occasion in the area would be on the theme “Development of Blekusu through resilience, hardwork and unity.”
