Sunyani, (Bono), March 14, GNA-The Right Reverend Dr Festus Yeboah Asuamah, the Anglican Bishop of the Sunyani Diocese at the weekend inducted the newly elected executives of the Diocesan Mothers’ Union to spearhead and growth and development of the union.
Mother Belinda Serwaa Addo, the newly elected Diocesan President of the Union will lead a seven-member executive to achieve the mandate of the union in opening new branches within the diocesan, evangelise communities, promote girl-child education and expand educational support to vulnerable people.
The union is also tasked to offer employable skills training to empower women economically, identify and venture into viable businesses, as well as collaborate with NGOs and the civil society community to impact the lives of the people.
Speaking at an induction ceremony held at the St Anslem Anglican Church in Sunyani, Rt. Rev. Dr Asuamah emphasised that the contributions of the union towards the growth of the church remained unparalleled.
Besides spiritual development of the members of the Church, the Anglican Priest asked the union to work hard to achieve their mandate of improving the socio-economic livelihoods of the people in the local communities.
Mr Ahmed Ibrahim, the Minister of Local Government, Chieftaincy and Religious Affairs, emphasised that the government appreciated the invaluable contributions of faith-based organisations in advancing national progress.
He said the government alone could not shoulder the responsibility of addressing emerging societal problems, saying that as critical partners in development, there was the need for faith-based organisations to do their best and support the government in that regard.
Mr Ibrahim asked the union to intensify advocacy in helping to stem abuses against children and work hard to make a positive impact on society.
In her induction remarks, Mother Addo expressed the union’s appreciation to the diocesan bishop, her wife and the entire diocese for the confidence reposed in them and pledged their dedication to serve in humility and diligence to achieve the vision of the union.
“This isn’t just a position; it’s a commitment to serve, to sacrifice, to pray and to lead with integrity”, she stated.
A fund-raising rally to support the activities of the union yielded over GHC65,000.
