NADMO donates relief items to farmers in Ketu South

Aflao (VR), Feb. 19, GNA – The National Disaster Management Organisation (NADMO) in the Ketu South Municipality of the Volta Region has presented relief items to farmers who were affected by the recent devastating drought.

The items included 60 bags of 25-kilogram rice, 35 cartons of cooking oil, and 50 bags of 25-kilogram maize.

Mr Nicholas Kwabla Worklachie, the Municipal Chief Executive (MCE), expressed sympathy to the affected farmers and reassured them of government’s continued support in times of crisis.

He said the drought had significantly impacted farmers in the municipality, and the donation formed part of government’s commitment to cushioning them.

He encouraged the farmers to use the items for their intended purpose and urged them to trust the National Democratic Congress (NDC) government under President John Dramani Mahama to deliver more development projects for the area.

Mr Worklachie advised farmers to adopt improved farming practices and refrain from using harmful chemicals that could endanger public health and livestock.

Mr Ferguson Ahorlu, the Municipal NADMO Director, disclosed that the relief items came from the Africa Risk Capacity Insurance Scheme, to which Ghana is a beneficiary.

He reiterated NADMO’s readiness to support residents in times of need and said the organisation was implementing measures to prevent future disasters.

He encouraged the farmers not to give up, but to work harder, noting that agriculture remained a vital sector for the country’s survival.

He said a total of 250 farmers affected by the 2024 drought benefitted from the support.

Mr Ahorlu added that the gesture formed part of NADMO’s broader efforts to offer relief to disaster-hit communities and promote food security across affected areas.

A beneficiary, Mr George Horgli, who spoke on behalf of the farmers, expressed gratitude to the government and NADMO for the timely support.

He said the intervention would help them recover from their losses and prepare adequately for the next farming season.

The Ghana News Agency observed that the items were distributed across several communities in the municipality, with NADMO pledging to continue monitoring the situation and provide additional assistance when necessary.
